The Bradford Clean Air Zone has been live since September 2022 and is operating to improve air quality in the district by deterring the most polluting vehicles from entering the zone. Air pollution levels in Bradford have been found to be too high with damaging impacts on the health of residents.
Bradford Council has worked closely with local businesses and transport operators with an extensive grants and exemption programme. Bradford Council have already issued grants to Bradford licensed vehicle proprietors and local businesses to upgrade non-compliant taxis, private hire vehicles, LGVs, minibuses HGVs and Coaches.
To further support Bradford businesses Bradford Council have now launched the Clean Air Heavy Duty Vehicle (HDV) Grant Programme which offers additional limited funding of £1.1 million to help local companies (up to Small/Medium-sized Enterprise) and charities to upgrade their vehicles to meet the Clean Air Zone (CAZ) standards.
Applications are invited from Bradford district based businesses (up to Small/Medium-sized Enterprise) for up to £16,000 towards the replacement or retrofit upgrade of a Heavy Duty Vehicle (HGV's and Coaches) which is not compliant with the Bradford Clean Air Zone standard.
Funds for the HDV programme are extremely limited so applications will be assessed on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. Applications are 1 vehicle per application however if you wish to apply for more than one vehicle, you can submit multiple applications.
Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said,
We are pleased to extend our support to Bradford businesses for the upgrade of their non-compliant vehicles by offering up to £16,000 per vehicle in grant funding for HGV’s or coaches. The funding will be allocated on a first come first served basis, so if your business has a vehicle you are considering upgrading take a look at the website and apply for a grant today
In addition to this new HDV grant funding the other grant programmes remain open for LGV, minibuses and private hire vehicles.
We would encourage anyone who is unsure if they need to pay or are entitled to grants or exemptions to call the Clean Air Zone team on 01274 435533 which is open Monday to Thursday, 8.30am to 5pm and Friday, 8.30am to 4.30pm.
